What works without AI, and what AI adds
Kinetic Scenes is free, and everything you need to make and publish an animation works with no AI at all. AI is an optional helper: it can plan and build a scene from a sentence and review its own work, but you never need it.
Without any AI
- The whole editor: layers, the timeline, keyframes, the camera, groups, markers and click-to-advance presentations.
- Templates and styles: every template and every style, with their starter scenes.
- Every preset and effect, browsed by technique or by goal.
- Check scene and the layout check: text too small or too quick to read, overlaps, the apps' covered areas.
- Sound: the built-in sound effects, your own music, beat detection in the browser.
- Export: plain HTML for your pages, the WordPress Kinetic Scene element, and video for Reels, TikTok, Shorts and YouTube.
- Saving: in your browser and as project files. No account.
What AI adds
| With AI | What it does |
|---|---|
| AI assist | Plans a scene from a sentence (a storyboard you approve first), builds it with real presets, edits what you select, and follows a style. |
| Look and fix | Renders frames from across the scene, scores them like a design jury on seven points and fixes the weakest first. |
| From your material | Builds scenes from a website, a voice-over or your footage (highlights, captions, reframing). |
| Speech, voices and separation | Transcribing a voice-over, generating a voice, separating speech from music (these run locally through the AI Dev Kit). |
Where the AI comes from
AI in Kinetic Scenes runs on your own AI, so there's nothing to buy from us:
- Your Claude subscription, or a local model, through the free AI Dev Kit on your computer. The Studio talks to the kit on your machine; your scenes aren't sent to us.
- AI agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) can use the same tools to make scenes for you.
The Studio checks quietly whether the AI Dev Kit is running. If it isn't, AI features say so, and everything else works as normal. Some browsers block websites from reaching apps on your own computer; see Known limitations.
